Education
Professor Ryszard Skubisz completed legal studdies (1972) at the M. Curie-Skłodowska Uniwersity in Lublin. He acquired further academic titles: Ph.D. in 19978, doctor hab. (doktor habilitowany) in 1988 at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań; and associate professor in 1991, full professor in 1996 at the M. Curie-Skłodowska University. He has also completed a patent attorney course 1978-1979.
Achievements
Prof. Ryszard Skubisz specializes in intellectual property law, in particular industrial property law, unfair competition, and antitrust law. He is a lecturer at two Lublin Universities (UMCS and KUL) and a renowned author of textbooks and commentaries in his field of specialisation. His commentary on the Act on Trademarks made a considerable contribution in shaping Polish trademark protection practice. He is the author of over 140 publications, including several works on combating unfiar competition and on intellectual property law, company law and European law. He is a member of the European Community Trademark Association. He lectures on these subjects at several foreign universities, mainly in France and Germany. Since 1989, Professor Skubisz has continously acted as an outside expert to the Polish Parliament and various governmental agencies. He participated in the drafting of the Trademark Law, the Unfair Competition Law, and the Law on companies with Foreign Participation.
As part of his association with SK&S, which dates back to 1992, Professor Skubisz has prepared numerous legal reports and opinions on trademark law, advertising law, European law, mass media law, Internet law, and food law. Since 2002, Professor Skubisz has run an independent patent attorney office, independently of his advisory activity as part of SK&S.
